Do you provide care for babies and children?

Yes, we offer medical care for patients of all ages, including infants, young children, and adults, regardless of their medical condition. We have exam rooms for our pediatric patients, specially designed with their comfort in mind, with wall art, stuffed animals, and toys.

Do I need to make an appointment?

No appointment is needed at Alexandria Emergency Hospital. In the case of a medical emergency, we encourage you to come in immediately. Also, if you are sick or injured and cannot get in to see your primary care doctor, our team of expert physicians is here 24/7/365 to provide you with exceptional care.

How much does a visit at Alexandria Emergency Hospital cost?

We can provide an estimated cost of care by completing a free basic medical screening before any treatment, but the actual cost of care depends on your condition and the medical services provided.

How is Alexandria Emergency Hospital different from an urgent care center?

In comparison to urgent care centers, we are open 24/7, whereas urgent care clinics are only open 8-12 hours a day. Emergency rooms, like Alexandria Emergency Hospital, are also equipped with advanced radiology equipment and lab testing capabilities. Urgent care clinics usually only have limited laboratory and radiology testing. Also, our hospital is staffed with board-certified physicians and ER-trained registered nurses, and urgent care clinics are typically staffed by Physician’s Assistants or Nurse Practitioners.

What is the average wait time?

As your neighborhood ER and hospital, we have much shorter wait times than typical emergency rooms – little to no wait, actually. Alexandria Emergency Hospital doesn’t take patients from 911 ambulance services, eliminating overcrowding in the waiting room and allowing our expert staff to see you more promptly and efficiently.

Do you have a diagnostic lab onsite?

Yes, and our diagnostic lab is CLIA and COLA-certified and allows for advanced testing that provides invaluable information. Your results are processed while you wait, allowing for diagnostics in 15-30 minutes.

Do you offer radiology services?

Our radiology department has advanced medical equipment, including an X-ray machine, MRI, CT scanner, doppler, and bedside Ultrasound equipment. Patients are given written radiology reports and CDs to share results with primary care physicians or specialists.

What if I need to be admitted to the hospital for further care?

Our hospital offers inpatient observational services for patients who need to be admitted for extended care. If you require a transfer to another facility for care, our staff can arrange a direct transfer to an inpatient room at the hospital of your choosing, bypassing the hospital’s emergency department. We have an extensive network of local physicians and practices for patients who require specialty services.

What are the documentation required for outpatient services?

For outpatient services, the following documentation must be presented:

  1. The medical necessity of the outpatient service in a physician’s office visit note or progress note.
  2. A signed and dated physician’s order for the outpatient services. Patients without a written order will receive an emergency room medical screening first (emergency room charges will apply).

What insurance do you take?

We accept all commercial insurance for medical emergencies. Currently, we do not accept government-funded insurance plans such as Medicare, Medicaid, or LaCHIP.

How do I know if Alexandria Emergency Hospital is “in network”?

Louisiana law requires your insurance carrier to pay for your emergency care, whether the emergency room is “in-network” or “out-of-network.” The state of Louisiana empowers you to use “a prudent layperson standard” when considering what constitutes an emergency.

What types of payment do you take for self-pay patients?

We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards payments, including Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.

What part of my bill am I responsible for?

You will be asked to pay your emergency room copay, coinsurance, and/or deductible depending on your insurance.

How is my emergency visit processed with my insurance provider?

Your ER visit will be processed by our billing department at Nutex Health and sent to your insurance company. To learn more, visit our  Billing & Insurance page.

State law requires patients to be reimbursed for emergency room visits by their insurance carrier. If your insurance company refuses payment for your emergency room visit, you can file a grievance with the Louisiana Department of Insurance.
