November 3, 2023 (Alexandria, Louisiana) – Alexandria Emergency Hospital, a physician-managed hospital designed to provide community access to prompt, compassionate emergency care, announces that they have partnered with the trailblazing MeMed BV® test that distinguishes viral from bacterial infection within 15 minutes.
MeMed BV® is a diagnostic test developed to address the management of patients with acute infection in different clinical settings, including the emergency department. The MeMed BV® test uses machine learning to integrate measurements of three key host-immune proteins into a score indicating the likelihood of bacterial or viral infections. The ability to distinguish between bacterial and viral infections early in the diagnostic process has significant potential to impact patient care and combat antimicrobial resistance.
“Studies have shown that more than 25% of antibiotics that are prescribed in ambulatory settings are unnecessary. This new test takes a whole blood sample and can return results in less than 20 minutes to provide our physicians with data to quickly determine whether the patient likely will need antibiotics for bacterial infection, and to prevent unnecessary prescription of antibiotics,” said Taylor Hinson, Chief Nursing Officer at Alexandria Emergency Hospital.
